Agriculture may be defined as the cultivation of plants or animals. Agriculture has been a part of our lives for thousands of years and has allowed mankind to survive for generations. Man has cultivated and used plants and animals for sustenance.
Learning the advantages of agriculture, man was able to domesticate animals for food sources, use the land in order to harvest vegetables and fruits for food. Agriculture is important for the survival of the human race.
So, why agriculture is important?
One of the greatest benefits of agriculture is that it gives work opportunities to different parts of the world. Farming and agriculture is a large industry with employs a lot of people in order for the farms to be productive. There are a lot of hands involved in cultivating agricultural products. A lot of people are needed for the planting and harvesting of plants and to the caring for and breeding of animals.
Sufficient study and understanding the importance of agriculture allows man to develop new products and technologies which can supply the increasing demand for such product. New technologies can speed up growth of different food products which are in high demand, thereby increasing the production to meet the demand. An example is the development of avocado. Avocado normally takes about 4-6 months to mature, however, with the development of new technologies; the fruit can now be cultivated in as little as 2 weeks. Processing, bottling and preserving can then take place.
Another benefit of Agriculture is that it can sustain large communities when we are able to cultivate it so that it the food can be preserved and multiplied.
Agriculture is important for sustaining and stimulating environmental and social growth. By being able to cultivate and mass produce food resources, we may possible be able to lessen, if not eliminate hunger and poverty.
It also can improve world economy as agriculture is important for trade and industry. Agricultural products are imported and exported by and from other countries.
